Two One Act Playes
In By The Half by Jimmie Chinn
The Crimson Cocoanut by Ian
Hay

  Production date:
13 - 14 July 2001

In by the Half
"So rare it is that one sees a play in which the lead role appears to have been written for the actress playing it....I feel sorry, then, for Jimmy Chinn, the writer, because unless he was at Milborne St Andrew village hall last Friday he has missed out on what will undoubtedly be the defining performance of his play"
Blackmore Vale Magazine 20 July 2001

The play centres on Madam (played by Maggie Redmill) an ex-actress who never leaves her house in Hammersmith. She employs Doris, whom she loathes and who loathes her, to take care of her frailty through a constant supply of lemon tea and the denial of any form of chocolate. Madam refuses to admit the demise of her acting career resulting in a need to perform a make believe play every evening plus a matinee on Saturdays. Supplementing her income by giving elocution and acting lessons to the hoplessly untalented Sylvia. The crux of the play revolves around a visit from Madam's estranged daughter Ursula, whom Madam believes only wants money. This is far from the truth as Ursula is terminally ill.
